Starting a Website
Please take some time to answer the following questions…
1. What would you like your website to do? (showcase or sell work…)
2. How many categories or pages do you want on your website? (about, info, contact, links…)
3. If you are an artist, how many gallery pages do you need and how many images on each page?
4. Do you need a blog?
Domain Name and Hosting Account
In short, your domain name (web address) points to your hosting account where your files and information are stored. There are many companies that would love to have your business. My recommendation for a basic portfolio website (no shopping cart) is to go with www.GoDaddy.com . For hosting one website, I would recommend signing up for the Economy Linux Plan. If you are hosting multiple websites then upgrade to theDeluxe Linux Plan. Both plans are very reasonable.
NOTE TO NEW CLIENTS: If you are unsure and would like some help setting this up please let me know. I can walk you through the process. GoDaddy has many ads and sometimes it is very hard to see the way to the checkout. I am not a GoDaddy reseller but if you click on the links that I have provided, I get a little piece of the sale for referring you to their site.
Shopping Carts
The shopping cart that I have put together, along with Johnson & Associates is a modification of an oscommerce shopping cart. It has many great features making it very desirable for artists and small businesses. The shopping cart works well for individuals with one of a kind products. If the product/items quantity reaches zero then the item is displayed with a sold icon. An online back-end administrator makes it easy to upload new products, view orders, manage contacts and send HTML emails and newsletters. The shopping cart template can be modified to have a look and feel that is similar to your website.
Hosting for the shopping cart is through Johnson & Associates. Please contact me for pricing.
