ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

PACKAGING LABEL

With this project, you will show that you have a good understanding of how Illustrator operates as well as showing your conceptual expertise.  You are to design a label for a product.  The products you may choose from are; shampoo bottle, or soap packaging, coffee or tea or a cereal box or any other food variety.  The product does not have to exist, you may create your own.  Please refrain from anything obscene for a title.

Programs to be used:
Illustrator CS2

All visual and typography must be developed in Illustrator.

The label must have the following:

  • A name
  • Subtext explaining the product or a tagline
  • Weight/oz. Information
  • An illustrated image of the product or a character
  • Barcode Optional - Check out this link

Final size must conform to an actual product shape and size.

Find something in your home to base your label off of.  You must measure the size on the packaging you are choosing and go from there.  I am not expecting the entire package to be designed.

Final output should be a color print at 300 dpi.  I would like the label to be placed on the actual package you are using as a guide. Be prepared to present your product to the class. What were your influences, concept, and target audience?

SKETCHBOOK

Before you begin READ THIS

Research a style from 1900s-Present. Print images and paste them in your sketch book. Include the dates of the illustrations and artist if available. One of my favorite resources is The Retro Graphics Archive.

Examples: Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Pop....

GRADING

Grading for this project will be based on the difficulty of the design. Simple images will be marked the lowest and more complex will be graded the highest. I am not expecting you to be an expert, however, I do expect you to challenge yourself.
