ADOBE PHOTOSHOP & ILLUSTRATOR

BOOK JACKET

With this project, you will show that you have a good understanding of how Illustrator and Photoshop operate as well as showing your conceptual expertise. You are to design a book jacket using Photoshop for the image and using illustrator for the book template and the typography. The book selection is up to you. The only stipulation is that the book be something you are interested in and one that you have actually read. You can also decide to develop your image using both Photoshop and illustrator.

PARAMETERS

Programs to be used:
Illustrator CS2
Photoshop CS2

All typography must be developed in Illustrator.

The book jacket must have the following information:

  • Title
  • Author
  • Explanation of book
  • Praise for book (optional)

Final size will be comprised of 2 panels at 6.25"wide x 9" high. You will also need a spine of .5".

Final output should be a color print at 300 dpi.

PROCESS

Begin with selecting your book and finding images that relate. Start developing collages using photoshop and then begin working in illustrator.

PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS

You will be mounting a final print out showing the entire book jacket flat on black mat board or black foam core. Visually center the piece with 2" on the left, top, and right sides with 3" on the bottom of the design.

GRADING

Grading for this project will be based on the difficulty of the design. Simple images will be marked the lowest and more complex will be graded the highest. I am not expecting you to be an expert, however, I do expect you to challenge yourself.
